A self-taught artist Achraf Baznani may have no formal photography education but his unrivaled imagination makes up for his lack of academic training.
Moroccan photographer and filmmaker Achraf Baznani didn’t know he was an artist until he was a fully-fledged teenager.
His artistic predilections became painfully apparent when someone gave him a camera for his birthday, revealing hidden depths he was previously unaware of. His first instinct was to look for the unusual in the everyday, capturing ordinary moments that looked extraordinary in his pictures. Carrying on the tradition of Surrealism, he started inserting small human figures in wild, imaginative and wholly impractical imagery. Among his inventive scenarios, he often appears trapped under glass jars or the size of a camera lens, while in other works he dissects his own body by cleanly removing his brain from his cranium! His Website, an exercise in whimsy and style, is reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, although Achraf Baznani had clearly stepped through the other side of the mirror long before she had!
